Llauro, France

The house is situated close to the new primary school building in Llauro. It is a typical French village home. Built on four storeys, the ground floor comprises a garage and a large cave with sufficient space for parking two vehicles. A tiled staircase leads up to the main bedroom on the first floor.

Up again to the second floor and the enclosed patio area with amazing mountain views. A small washroom housing a toilet, sink and washing machine adjoins the patio. Through the doors to the kitchen/diner, equipped with gas cooker, multi fuel/wood burner cooker, microwave oven and gas fired water geyser. A large larder fridge is housed in the under stairs cupboard.

Up again to the third floor and bedrooms 2 and 3 and the shower room.

Whther you week the mountains, the sun, the sea, the sand or other more creative activities, Lauro is a great place to be.

Bar Pablo and Restaurant Les Feuillants beyond

Take a pleasant evening stroll through the narrow streets of Ceret and you will discover a number of small bars and family-run restaurants.

Local restaurants are generally of a very high standard, as you would expect in this area of France. A sample of our favourite restaurants is as follows:

Restaurant les Feuillants, Ceret. Tel 04 68 87 37 88
The set menus from the brasserie start from 20 Euros per person serving the finest food in Ceret.

Restaurant Au Poivre Vert,
Place Republique, Amelie les Bains. Tel: 04 68 39 05 45
A very pleasant terrace overlooking the river. The set menus start from 13 Euros per person.

Hotel Restaurant Le Cortie, Thuir
The set menus are very reasonably priced, providing an open buffet of typical Catalan Food.

There are two nightclubs in Ceret, "Les Artists" and "La Chunga" each becoming lively at weekends after midnight

A Saturday morning market brings these streets alive on every weekend of the year.

There are several car parks in the village. The sketch above shows the location of the apartment, three car parking areas, the village shop, cafe, post office, telephone and refuse collection point.

An ideal holiday base that provides a broad
spectrum of activities and interests

The sun drenched hill village of Eus.

Try the delightful walk from here to
the deserted village of Serrabone

Mountains:
There are several breathtakingly beautiful walks nearby. Take a walk along the Gorge de la Fou at Arles-sur-Tech, rambling upstream along narrow pathways, over rocks and past waterfalls and discover the many sunny natural swimming pools ideal for picnicking. Alternatively, visit the Abbey of St Martin du Canigou at Casteil. The abbey is dramatically situated on a rocky plateau and is reached by a twisting path that climbs up the side of the valley, with colourful views, through undisturbed natural woodland.

Spain:
Being close to the Spanish border there is easy road access to the charming and lively Spanish seaports of Cadaques and Puerto de la Selva and the inland town of Figueras, home of Salvador Dali and site of his famous museum. Barcelona can be reached within two and a half hours by motorway

The Sea:
The fashionable resort of Collioure is within 45 minutes drive.

Recognised as probably the most attractive fishing port in the whole of Southern France, it was home to Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy, and many other artists. There are three good beaches here and a fourth is accessible by walking along a rocky path virtually at sea level past several rock pools and isolated bathing coves.

Sporting Facilities:
Water sports and hire facilities are available at the local resort of Le Racou in high season (including rescue boat) and the famous Mistral wind attracts windsurfers of all abilities. The local towns of Ceret and Thuir both have good quality public tennis courts situated next to the swimming pool and there is an 18-hole golf course at St Cyprien. Horse riding is available and the stables near Collioure have organised rides of varying duration through the wooded landscape and over hillsides with spectacular views. Hill walking is possible directly from the house or you may wish to join an organised walking expedition from Ceret accompanied by a qualified guide.
