Ceret, "Les Artists" and "La Chunga" each
becoming lively at weekends after midnight
A Saturday morning market brings these streets alive on every
weekend of the year.

Mountains:
There are several breathtakingly beautiful walks nearby. Take
a walk along the Gorge de la Fou at Arles-sur-Tech, rambling
upstream along narrow pathways, over rocks and past waterfalls
and discover the many sunny natural swimming pools ideal for
picnicking. Alternatively, visit the Abbey of St Martin du Canigou
at Casteil. The abbey is dramatically situated on a rocky plateau
and is reached by a twisting path that climbs up the side of
the valley, with colourful views, through undisturbed natural
woodland.
Spain:
Being close to the Spanish border there is easy road access to
the charming and lively Spanish seaports of Cadaques and Puerto
de la Selva and the inland town of Figueras, home of Salvador
Dali and site of his famous museum. Barcelona can be reached
within two and a half hours by motorway

The Sea:
The fashionable resort of Collioure is within 45 minutes drive.
Recognised as probably the
most attractive fishing port in the whole of Southern France,
it was home to Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy, and many other
artists. There are three good beaches here and a fourth is accessible
by walking along a rocky path virtually at sea level past several
rock pools and isolated bathing coves.
Sporting Facilities:
Water sports and hire facilities are available at the local resort
of Le Racou in high season (including rescue boat) and the famous
Mistral wind attracts windsurfers of all abilities. The local
towns of Ceret and Thuir both have good quality public tennis
courts situated next to the swimming pool and there is an 18-hole
golf course at St Cyprien. Horse riding is available and the
stables near Collioure have organised rides of varying duration
through the wooded landscape and over hillsides with spectacular
views. Hill walking is possible directly from the house or you
may wish to join an organised walking expedition from Ceret accompanied
by a qualified guide.
